FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below are some questions our customers have asked. If you don't see the information you need here, or on the rest of this website, just click the rotating email icon and drop us a note. We will email you back, usually the same day. Don't worry, no sales staff will contact you (unless you ask us to of course!).
Do you make an electric powered crusher?
No and Yes. Normally, the crushers we build are powered by the hydraulic pump that lifts the dump box on the recycling truck. If you need a crusher for a stationary application, you can use an electric motor to power a hydraulic pump which will then power the crusher. We have an electric drive unit in development but it's not ready yet. We can also supply an electrically driven hydraulic power pack if you need it.
Do you make a smaller or light duty crusher?
No. We have a smaller unit in development but it's not ready to go yet.
How much more compaction or density will we get with a crusher?
This is a bit like asking "How high is up?". Compaction rates are different in every collection program in every city. In cold climates, plastic does not have as strong a memory and will not spring back as far as it does in warm temperatures. If you have a lot of gallon containers in your collection, you will get a great deal of compaction. If you have a lot of metal cans you will get an even greater amount of compaction. We routinely tell our customers to expect 30% more space in the compartment but in practice, many customers report much greater compaction rates. In tests we have done, the crusher will just keep pushing containers into the compartment until the sides begin to bulge.
After crushing, can we still sort the containers at our facility?
Yes. The patented crusher mechanisim punctures and flattens each container separately. Unlike shredders, rams, augers and cube makers, the crusher will not interlock the containers you collect and we have not had a single complaint from any sorting facility concerning their ability to separate containers after crushing.
Is the crusher easy to operate?
Very easy. Most collection truck drivers and MRF sorters forget it's even there. Just throw the containers into the unit and it perforates, flattens and ejects the containers automatically and continuously. And, its FAST. With hundreds of pounds per hour throughput, your drivers and sorters will never have to wait for the crusher.
How much money will we
save with a crusher?
![]()
Another "How high is up?" question. If you have a long collection route you will save more money. If you collect a lot of containers you will save more money. If you fill up your container compartment more frequently you will save more money. If you spend a long time getting to or from the MRF you will save more money. If (when) the price of fuel, maintenance, insurance, drivers, training, etc. goes up, you will save more money.
Will non-recyclables break the crusher?
This machine is tough. We have tested it with a cube of steel FOUR INCHES on each side. Even if a large uncrushable piece does get in to the unit, it will usually just stall the rotor with no damage to the machine.
How much does the crusher weigh?
The crusher weighs about 700 pounds when shipped from the factory.
Do you install crushers on trucks or in facilities?
No. We don't provide installation services, but we will cheerfully provide advice, drawings etc. to help you get the units installed and operating properly.
What wears out on the crusher?
Not much. About the only parts we see wearing out are the puncturing spikes and they last a long time because they are spring loaded so they get out of the way when a solid object goes by. A full set of spikes can be changed out in about an hour but normally you just replace them a few at a time as they wear. Spikes and holders are always available, just give us a call when you need some.
